A Partnership Built on Trust and Growth

At Miller Scales, customer satisfaction has always been at the heart of operations.

Founded in 1960, the Fort Wayne, Indiana, company has evolved into a strong, customer-focused business, now operating out of a spacious 25,000 square foot building. The recent expansion allowed Miller Scales to increase warehouse capacity, add new products, and support a growing e-commerce platform that delivers to professional processors and home butchers nationwide.

“While we are proud of our legacy and growth, one of the key factors behind our success is our long-standing partnership with Excalibur Seasoning,” says Shaun Blake, owner of Miller Scales.

The meat processing and equipment supplier has partnered with Excalibur for decades, in what Blake contends is more than a vendor-customer relationship.

“By definition, we are a distributor for Excalibur, but I’ve always thought of it as more of a partnership to help grow both of our businesses. We work directly with their sales team to strategically take care of customers. We collaborate with management on sales trends and new product ideas, and we work with the regulatory team to ensure we are doing things the right way.”

Excalibur’s high-quality products, from curing blends to specialty seasonings, have been a cornerstone of Miller Scales’ offerings.

“Customers come to us because they know we’ll have everything they need, and that includes the best from Excalibur, like their jerky blends, marinades, and summer sausage seasonings. We’ve built our reputation on consistently offering the finest products.”

Blake remembers his first experience with Excalibur and how it left an impression.

“I remember my first meeting with John Brewer,” he recalls. “I was new to owning the business, and I wanted to make sure they were confident in me. Before I could say anything, John assured me that nothing would change and that they believed in Miller Scales and me as the new leader. That moment reinforced what I already suspected — a relationship built on trust and mutual support.”

For Miller Scales, it’s not just about selling products. One of Excalibur’s standout qualities is their commitment to innovation and problem-solving, he says.

“Our customers often request to duplicate certain products, and Excalibur’s R&D team is phenomenal at helping us match those products and create new ones. They make sure we’re ahead of the curve, offering exactly what our customers want.”

As for his favorite Excalibur products, Blake is quick to share his love for Pineapple Teriyaki, Habanero Mango, Bruschetta, and Jambalaya Bratwurst.

“If I had to choose one favorite, it would be the Barbecue Snack Stick seasoning. It’s a winner every time!”

In a world where business relationships can feel transactional, the partnership between Miller Scales and ES stands as a true testament to the power of mutual respect, innovation, and growth.

“We appreciate our relationship with John, Bob, and the entire sales team and we look forward to continued growth together. And of course, we want to thank our customers who trust both Miller Scales and Excalibur. Without them, none of this would be possible.”
